HOMILY - THURSDAY 5TH WEEK OF EASTER
MAY 18, 2017
8:45 AM ORDINARY FORM MASS (2ND GRADE)
Today, we hear Jesus tell us to "Remain in His Love."
We get lots of images of love in our day-to-day lives.
The Beatles told us "All You Need is Love," we are inundated with messages of love at Valentine's Day, and even the popular culture has postage stamps, cartoons, and bumper stickers about love.
But this is the type of love that "loves ice cream." That is until we get a stomach ache from eating too much. Then we don't have much feeling for ice cream, except maybe nausea.
Jesus tells us to "remain in His Love," and that calls us to be with Jesus – and God the Father – all the time, in every place, with every thought, and every action. To live, breathe, think, and act ... through, with, and in God.
Because, while there are many things that come and go in our lives claiming to be love, God – in His entire being – IS LOVE!
So to remain in God's Love is to remain in God. To remain, abide, continue, endure, live, or await – all in God, and all in His Love.
Ice cream may or may not be something worth loving, but God is always Love, will always love us, and will always be lovable.
And so, to remain or abide in God's Love, we must follow Jesus; receive His grace, mercy, and love; and trust in His Word and in His promises.
